ACCESS

Boat ramps and lake access

Common access areas include Moutardier, Wax, Dog Creek, Iberia and Brier Creek. Several of these locations also provide camping, marina access or other recreation amenities. Ramp availability can vary with season and lake level, so check LakeReady access status and the live reservoir level before towing to the lake.

SEASONAL OUTLOOK

How fishing changes through the year

Spring

Rising water and warming creek arms can concentrate fish around transition banks, shallow cover and the backs of tributaries. Watch the 24-hour lake-level trend because a fast rise or fall can move fish quickly.

Summer

Low-light periods often become more important. Main-lake points, channel swings, shaded banks and deeper structure can be productive as surface temperatures climb. Use weather and wind to help decide which sections of the lake are safest and most comfortable to fish.

Fall

Cooling water often pushes baitfish and predators back toward creek arms. Cover water and pay attention to areas where bait is visible, especially around points, flats and channel intersections.

Winter

Slower presentations and depth become more important. Stable weather and stable water levels can simplify the search, while rapid fronts or reservoir movement may change fish position.

LAKE LEVEL

Why reservoir movement matters

Water-level movement can change the amount of shoreline cover in the water, the usability of some ramps and the position of fish around banks, points and channel edges. LakeReady shows the current elevation, 24-hour change, inflow and outflow so anglers can see whether Nolin is rising, falling or relatively steady before leaving home.

REGULATIONS

Kentucky fishing regulations

Nolin River Lake and Rough River Lake currently have a 10-inch minimum size for crappie. Other species may be subject to statewide or water-specific size and creel limits, so anglers should check the current Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife regulations before fishing.
